May 12, 2026
5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
The Monroe Center at FCC (Frederick Community College), 200 Monroe Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701
Please note: This workshop is only available for middle and high school students. Participation in this club requires attendance of all three sessions (1/13/2026, 3/10/2026, and 5/12/2026). Additionally, a guardian must be present with the youth enrolled for the entire duration of all three sessions.
The FCBIA Construction Club gives middle and high school youth the chance to build real-world skills, explore future career paths in trades and design, and gain confidence through hands-on projects that make a real impact. From using tools safely to working as a team and completing community-based builds, youth develop practical abilities, a strong work ethic, and a sense of pride in what they create. With guidance from mentors and a supportive environment, this club helps young people discover interests and talents that can guide their path forward.
The three club dates will be broken down into the following workshops:
1/13/2026: Blueprints Workshop — Architecture & Engineering
Learn how real architects and engineers plan buildings! In this workshop, participants will explore both residential and commercial blueprints, discover the meaning of common symbols, and practice designing their own room layout on paper. Students will sketch walls, electrical placement, furniture arrangements, and more—building the foundational skills used in the construction industry.
3/10/2026: Diorama Workshop — Design, Carpentry & Electrical
Turn a 2D room plan into a 3D model. Using the blueprint created in the previous session, participants will construct a scaled diorama complete with walls, furniture, and basic electrical elements. This hands-on workshop uses materials like cardboard, scissors, and hot glue to bring design concepts to life through creative model-building.
5/12/2026: Canstruction Challenge — Engineering & Construction
Put teamwork and engineering skills to the test in a fast-paced building competition. Teams will study a provided blueprint and race the clock to build a structure entirely out of canned goods. Afterward, everyone votes for their favorite creation. All cans used in the challenge will be donated to the Frederick Rescue Mission, combining STEM learning with community impact.
